The Central Coast Council is on the lookout for a culprit who has deliberately poisoned trees in Penguin and it’s asking ratepayers for their help.
Trees at Hiscutt Park and Johnson’s Beach near the skate park have been targeted.
The council says holes have been drilled into the base of trees, with poison then poured in.
The trees can’t be saved and will have to be replaced at a cost to the council.
And, in case it wasn’t obvious, the council has been forced to erect signs reminding people it’s illegal to deliberately poison trees in public spaces.
The signage is also urging anyone who sees an offence committed involving damage or poisoning trees to report it to police.
The Penguin incidents come less than two weeks after foreshore vegetation was illegally cleared at on the beach at Hellyer, which is currently under investigation by Parks and Wildlife Tasmania.
