Devonport firefighter Marlon von Moger has beaten 700 other firefighers from all over Australia to win the Melbourne Firefighters Stair Climb.
Mr von Moger climbed the 28 floor stairwell of Melbourne’s Crown Metropole Hotel, carrying 25 kg of turnout gear, including breathing apparatus in less than four minutes.
He went one better than last year’s climb, in which he finished second in the event, which so far this year has raised $620,000 for charity.
It’s not the only national success for the 35 year-old, who recently won his age category in the Australian Gravel Cycling Championships.
Tasmanian Police and Emergency Services and Braddon MP, Felix Ellis was part of the Devonport team, completing his climb in a respectable seven minutes.
Seven Tasmanian brigades, including Port Sorell, participated in the event, with Bridgewater firefighter Brendan Tucker, also finishing in the top 10, in fourth place.
