One of Tasmania’s most experienced Local Government officials will retire next year.

Gerald Monson has had more than 50 years in the third tier of government, including the past 13 as joint general manager for Latrobe and Kentish Councils.

Mr Monson was instrumental in introducing the resource sharing arrangement between the two councils, which is unique in Australia with one workforce servicing and supporting two distinct Local Government areas.

Latrobe Mayor Peter Freshney says it will be difficult, if not impossible, to replace Mr Mr Monson’s commitment to the communities in which he has worked.

Kentish Mayor Kate Haberle says Kentish has benefited immensely from the resource sharing arrangement and Mr Monson’s vision and expertise has been instrumental in the ongoing sustainability of the municipality.

Both mayors say their councils are determined to build on the alliance which has been initiated by Mr Monson and supported by successive councils.
