Premier Jeremy Rockliff will outline the next steps in the Spirit of Tasmania saga on Thursday.

With the first of two replacement ships for the Spirits of Tasmania due to arrive before the end of the year, the new dedicated berth in Devonport won;t be ready until 2026.

Mr Rockliff has received a consultants’ feasibility report on the suitability of the current Spirits berth to accommodate the new ships until the new berth is completed.

He says he’s been considering the report since receiving it on Friday and will make the recommendations public on Thursday.

Concerns have been raised over the current berth being too shallow to allow the new ships to operate at full capacity and safety with the adjacent Searoad berth and its close proximity to the eight metre longer new Spirits.

Searoad managing director Chas Kelly and Premier Rockliff will give evidence into the parliamentary inquiry into the ship and port delay, being chaired by Murchison Independent MLC Ruth Forest, when it resumes on November 18th.
