The Premier has revealed Devonport’s upgraded berthing infrastructure for the new Spirit of Tasmania ships currently has a completion date of February 2027.
However, with an accelerated approach it could be finished by October 2026, in time for the peak Summer sailing.
Until completed, Premier Rockliff expects the opportunity to generate revenue from the ships.
“TT-Line will are engaging a broker to ensure leasing the new vessels in the interim period.”
Transport Minister and member for Franklin Eric Abetz explains temporary options have been ruled out.
“Option one would be unsafe, I think we can all be agreed that if it is unsafe it is unreasonable, in relation to option two the commercial reality of that was determined to be such that it would not be a viable option.”
