Knives are on the hit list this Christmas for Tasmania Police who will be armed with metal detection wands.
Police Minister Felix Ellis announcing a trial in the first instance.
“It’s time for our community to act, it’s time for our parliament to act and to say that enough is enough, people should be able to live their lives without a knife, they should able to go about their daily business without the threat of knife crime.”

Laws will also be strengthened on knives in parliament next year, in part driven by the death of Reid Ludwig who was stabbed at a Blackmans Bay Service Station in Hobart in 2019.
