Coastal schools ratings no so good

Students at North-West schools are lagging behind other parts of the state in literacy and numeracy skills according to the latest data from Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority’s My School website.

The website ranks Australian primary and secondary schools based on their National Assessment Programme for Literacy and Numeracy, or NAPLAN, results.

The best performing North-West primary school in Tasmania is the Devonport Christian School, ranked 19th, with Riana Primary School the only other Coastal primary school in the top 25.

The results for Coastal secondary schools is slightly more encouraging, with Leighlands Christian School at Ulverstone ranked 12th.

Marist Regional College in Burnie and St Brendan School in Devonport are the only other Coastal educational institutions in the top 25, at 17th and 23rd respectively.

Hobart’s Fahan private School came in as the number one ranked school in Tasmania in both primary and secondary categories.
