Central Coast residents may have a say in the future of one of the North-West’s most iconic pieces of playground equipment loved by generations if a report to be tabled at Monday night’s monthly meeting of the Central Coast Council is adopted.

The popular rocket ship and flying saucer slides have been in ANZAC Park at Ulverstone since the 1970s, earning the site the unofficial name of Rocket Park.

The report recommends a public survey as part of the council’s Open Space Roadshow next year.

The slides were removed from the two structures a number of years ago, with the flying saucer now used as a barbecue shelter.

The report also calls for the renewal or replacement of the rocket ship, be considered for the 2025-26 budget, but refurbishment of the flying saucer be considered in a future budget.

The report provides options for the rocket ship replacement of refurbishment ranging between $150,000 and $420,000, while the flying saucer would need $180,000 to bring it up to scratch.
