Funding for GP training capacity to get upgrades

18 GP practices across the state, including some on the North-West Coast, are set to share more than 1.7 million dollars of state and federal government funding, for vital upgrades to boost their training capacity.

It’s part of the single employer model program, allowing trainee GPS to be employed by the Tasmanian Government while training at a GP clinic.

Since the programme started last year, 22 GP trainees have been employed in regional and rural parts of the state, with the extra funding aimed at helping to recruit more.

The Patrick Street Clinic at Ulverstone and the Port Sorell Medical Centre are among the 18 practices which will receive funding to upgrade their practices, equipment and accommodation.
