A three year suspension handed to controversial northern Tasmanian horse trainer Ben Yole and his brother Tim is being welcomed by the state opposition and the RSPCA.
The Independent Stewards Panel yesterday informed the pair they’d been found guilty of a charge under the Australian Harness Racing rules.
The penalty has been backdated to July last year.
RSPCA Tasmania CEO Andrea Dawkins said it restores some confidence in the community.
“I think for some people there had been growing concern about whether any actions would be taken over allegations of mistreatment,” she said.
“So it is good to see this happen, to see that the process actually works.”
State Labor leader Dean Winter said the pair can count themselves lucky it wasn’t a lifetime ban.
