Sustainable Timbers Tasmania has put aside plans to log a section of the Dial Range South of Penguin.

The plan was widely rejected by locals and conservationists, with the Central Coast Council also lodging its objections with the state-owned company.

Sustainable Timbers has written to stakeholders saying the targeted coupes are no longer on it’s three-year wood production plan update, due to be released in July this year.

The company hasn’t totally ruled out plans to log the area, saying it’s paused its timeline for harvesting in the Dial Range to consider natural values and confirm final boundaries for the coupes.

The move has been hailed as a win by the Protect Our North West Forests Group and the Tasmanian Greens.

Greens Leader Rosalie Woodruff says Sustainable Timbers Tasmania only decided to put its plans on hold following pressure from community groups and the Central Coast Council.
