The new Tasmania Police Community Engagement Van will visit the North-West and West Coasts next month.
The van, named Poli, was launched yesterday and has been developed to increase police visibility in the Tasmanian community and improve community engagement with police to help preventing, identifying and reporting child sexual abuse and other crimes.
The initiative is a direct response to recommendations from the Wiess Review, a Tasmania Police Community Survey and Commission of Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings, and aims to proactively bring services and information to communities who need them or have traditionally had little or no opportunity to engage with Tasmania Police.
Police Commissioner Donna Adams says the can will be deployed at community and sporting events as well as stand alone interactions to help break down barriers.
The van will be at Agfest over the coming weekend and will be at Ulverstone on May 21, and on the West Coast on May 19th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd.
