Viswanathan joins Jackman's Bad Education

Following her breakout role in the comedy Blockers, newcomer Geraldine Viswanathan is set to co-star with Hugh Jackman in the Automatik film Bad Education.

Allison Janney is also on board. "I Think We're Alone Now" scribe Mike Makowsky penned the script Cory Finley, who recently helmed the Sundance darling Thoroughbreds, will direct.

The screenplay, which insiders say is akin to the 1999 Reese Witherspoon movie Election, is based on true events that Makowsky experienced at his high school.

La La Land producer Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik will produce alongside Eddie Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, and Oren Moverman of Sight Unseen. Makowsky is also producing the pic, which begins production in October.

The role was highly coveted among young female talent as it was seen as a great role for a rising star (sources say has tones of Reese Witherspoon in Election.)

Blockers is considered one of the bigger comedy surprise hits of the year and many believe Viswanathan was the one who came out as the winner among the young talent.

Viswanathan can be seen next in the Overbrook film Hala and also has the Netflix comedy The Package produced by Ben Stiller. On the TV side, she has the TBS series Miracle Workers.

She is represented by WME, 3 Arts, Mollison Keightley Management in Australia, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
