GoatFest
Goats and humans have travelled hoof in hand throughout much of human history, and nowhere is this partnership more celebrated than at GoatFest, the annual festival celebrating all things goat. Held in Longford on the last Sunday in January each year, GoatFest has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the most beloved niche festivals in Tasmania.
“We started out just wanting to show Tassie how versatile, adaptable and generous goats are, and now we have people travelling from all over Australia to attend,” says event Publicity Coordinator Anna Shepheard.
From fibre crafts, husbandry demonstrations, artisan goat milk soaps and children’s activities through to goat meat sausages on the BBQ, GoatFest has something for everyone.
“We expanded last year to double our footprint and were thrilled with the response,” says Committee Chair Steven Baldock. “Now that we have formalised GoatFest into an incorporated body we’re excited to see what the future brings. We hope to continue to expand while holding onto the core of what makes this festival so popular.”
