Latrobe Pickleball Classic
The Latrobe Pickleball Classic is an exciting new event set to debut on February 22-23, 2025.
This tournament will take place at the newly upgraded Latrobe courts, which now boast 10 brand-new pickleball courts—a project fully supported by the Latrobe Council last year.
As the fastest-growing sport worldwide, pickleball has taken Tasmania by storm, and this inaugural event is set to attract players from across the state. Its inclusive nature ensures that age is no barrier, with competitors ranging from teenagers to those in their 80s.
The tournament will also bring significant economic benefits to Latrobe and the surrounding areas, as players and their families will be staying in local accommodations, dining at local restaurants, and exploring what the region has to offer. The event will feature Shane Ruffels, a long-time coastal tennis player and coach who has transitioned to pickleball—a move he once vowed never to make!
Now the President of the Latrobe Tennis/Pickleball Club, Shane has been appointed as the tournament director for this landmark event. To add to the community atmosphere, the club is hosting a spit roast dinner on Saturday night, offering lamb, pork, and a vegan option, ensuring a warm and welcoming experience for all attendees.
