While Australia’s unemployment rate rises to 4.3% for June, the ABS data out today shows Tasmania’s at 3.8%, the second lowest of the states and territories.
An ongoing weakness in the Tassie result is much higher underemployment, where workers aren’t getting the hours they want.
The rise in the national figure saw nearly 34,000 becoming unemployed.

Employment Minister Amanda Rishworth insists a longer term view of the situation paints a strong picture
“If we take a 12 month perspective then we will see that 280,000 jobs have been added.”
