The Latrobe Council will be asked to approve a development application for TasRacing’s proposed $16 million harness racing and greyhound facility at Wesley Vale opposite the Devonport Airport at its monthly council meeting for October on Monday night.
The facility will replace the Devonport Showground venue, which has been closed for almost 18 months after being sold for a housing development.
In a report to be tabled at Monday night’s meeting, it’s been recommended the council support the application subject to a number of conditions.
The report notes 283 representations were received during the public comment period, with 212 in favour and 71 opposed to the proposal.
Latrobe Mayor Peter Freshney says the council will consider the application purely on planning grounds.
