Circular Head Councillors may the first in Tasmania vote themselves out of a job amid a climate of Local Government reform.

The council has proposed it should merge with neighbouring Waratah-Wynyard.

In a submission to the Local Government Review Board the council agrees with scenario two for the Western Catchment proposed in the review board’s interim report, in which the two councils merge.

Circular Head Mayor Gerard Blizzard says while forced amalgamations are off the table, the board has made the case for reform and the issues and challenges facing Local Government in Tasmania haven’t gone away.

Councillor Blizzard says Circular Head and Waratah-Wynyard Councils have been resource sharing for more than a decade and formalising an even stronger bond will achieve the best outcomes for the community.

Meanwhile, the Latrobe Council is hosting a Local Government Review information and update session on August 3rd, while the Review Board hold its Cradle Coast Community Hearing in Devonport on August 22nd.
