Devonport-based building and construction firm Fairbrother has become latest in a growing list of Tasmanian companies to be awarded a tender to fit-out the new Spirits of Tasmania.

Fairbrother will provide more than 300 tables for the new vessels, the first of which is due in August.

All the work will be undertaken at Fairbrother’s Devonport joinery facility, directly employing 44 people as part of Fairbrother’s 350 employees statewide.

Fairbrother general manager Marcus Perkins says the contract continues a long association with TT-Line which included a major role in the 2015 refurbishment of the current vessels.

“There will be 33 different types of tables being constructed of high-quality Tasmanian Oak, Huon Pine and laminate products,” Mr Perkins says.

He says the new tables and fittings will showcase Tasmania to passengers.

Fairbrother has been the lead contractor on a number of major Tasmanian construction projects, including the Novotel Devonport and the new University of Tasmania Cradle Coast Campus at West Point in Burnie.
