Concept designs of the planned AFL stadium for Hobart are set to be released in the next couple of weeks.
It’ll then be a race for the Macquarie Point Development Corporation to achieve planning approval by its deadline of the end of next financial year.
The Corporation’s Anne Beach telling a parliamentary committee, the public won’t be engaged in an official consultation capacity.
“Our intent would be to share it so that the community could see what we will be submitting through the project of state significance process and through that process there’s a lot of opportunity for public engagement.”
The committee heard its total cost based on the best global data will be 1.8 to 2.8 billion dollars.
The calculation was broken down by esteemed Tasmanian author Richard Flanagan who’s savaged the deal as an appallingly stupid decision and utter folly
“I’m ashamed to walk past the homeless people every day in this city, the numbers of which grow, up was up in the Domain this morning, there were people in wet sleeping bags there, people in collapsing tents, I’m ashamed to be a Booker Prize winner in an island that’s got a 50% illiteracy rate.”
