The Devonport Council will spend around $35 million next financial year if its draft budget is adopted next week.
The proposed budget will be tabled at next Monday night’s monthly council meeting for June, showing an expected expenditure of $50.7 million and income of $52.2 million, leading to a net operating surplus of $1.51 million.
Rates will rise by 4.5 per cent well below some of the proposed rates rises in other Coastal municipalities.
Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman says rates have only risen by 10.3 per cent in three years, well below inflation of 15.7 per cent for the same period, reflecting sound financial management by the council.
Major expenditure items will include $15.25 million to start the new indoor sport stadium near the Devonport Oval and $10.36 million for stormwater and road improvements.
