It has emerged an Ashley Youth Detention Centre worker code named Walter was accused by four people of abuse between 2008 and 2010, yet was kept on at the facility until 2017.
Despite victims involving Walter were paid through the state’s redress process, Ashley management wasn’t made aware.
A long list of accounts of sexual, physical and emotional atrocities at the centre have been unearthed.
Department of Communities Secretary Michael Pervan has appeared at the Commission Of Inquiry’s final day of investigating the facility.
“I have and continue to be personbally deeply impacted by the survivors’ experiences at Ashley and as Secretary of the department I sincerely apologise to each and every young person the Tasmanian Government departments did not provide safe and secure care for at Ashley.”
