Free water bottle refilling stations will be popping up over the next three months along the North-West in a bid to cut back on the environmental impacts of single-use plastics.
Taswater, is spending more than $500,000 to install 30 water bottle refilling stations across the state, providing easy access to free, high-quality drinking water in busy parks and town centres..
One has already been installed at Latrobe, with more to come in coming months at Sheffield, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin and Wynyard.
TasWater General Manager Customer and Community Matt Balfe says Tasmanians spend an estimated $15.7 million on bottled water each year, and on average, each person sends 130kgs of single-use plastic to landfill.
He’s asking Tasmanians to be refillers and not land fillers.
