The Don River Railway at Devonport has launched a major event to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, which will be held over three days and attract more than 5000 visitors from all over Tasmania and interstate.
The event, from February 14th-16th, will be showcasing Tasmania’s railway and transport history, both past and present.
Event manager Matt Goss says the celebration promises to be one of the largest events in Tasmanian railway history, with the biggest collaboration of visiting locomotives to date.
In addition to the Don River Railways extensive collection, locos from the West Coast Wilderness Railway, the Tasmanian Transport Museum, TasRail, the Sheffield Steam and Heritage Centre and Wee Georgie Wood Railway at Tullah will also be on site for the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Don River Railway Society is continuing to lobby Governments for funding to allow it to extend mainline services to and from Penguin and the Devonport waterfront.
