The Tasmanian agricultural show season gets underway this week with the traditional season opener with the Burnie Show and Agri-Expo.

The show will be staged at its new home at the Romaine Agri-plex on the Ridgley Highway, where it has been based since moving out of the Wivenhoe Showground in 2019 and attracting a record crowd.

It’s only one of four shows remaining on the North-West Coast, following the demise of Devonport and Ulverstone shows.

Show operations manager Kyle Barker says the show had to re-invent itself or go the same way.

Friday is a public holiday in Burnie and also on the West Coast.

Saturday’s programme will include races for daschunds, or sausage dogs, as well the opening carnival of the Tasmanian woodchopping season, with the 7BU animal nursery sure to be popular on both days.
