One of the highlights of celebrations of Penguin’s 150th anniversary this year will see dozens, maybe even hundreds, of people doing their best impersonation of the aquatic bird the town is named after this Sunday with the Great Penguin Waddle.
Participants are asked to dress in black and white if possible and will also be handed a free penguin mask to help get into character, with the fun event at 2.30 pm on the foreshore opposite the Penguin Uniting Church will kick off a family-friendly street party, which will include a sausage sizzle, games and music.
The waddle is just one of a number of events leading up to the town’s 150th birthday in October, which will also be the 50th birthday of the iconic Big Penguin, which was erected in 1975, to commemorate the town’s centenary.
