Allegations of the state government cancelling a Hawthorn Footy Club event in August at Mudbar Restaurant in Launceston as an act of retribution have been raised through questioning in a Hobart hearing.
Labor leader Dean Winter’s interrogated Sports Minister Nic Street on whether it was because Mudbar’s owner urged the government to adopt the opposition’s policy of more Spirit of Tasmania sailings to counteract a severe downturn in tourism and hospitality.
Winter: “Do you understand an attempt like this to inflict maximum financial damage on a business because they were critical of your government would constitute potentially a breach of the law?”
Street: ” I understand the line of questioning, I’m asking for you to allow me to take these questions on notice so that I can clarify the position with my office.”
