Coastal dairies among Tasmania’s best

Coastal dairy farms and farmers are expected to dominate the Tasmanian Dairy Awards, which will be announced in Launceston next week at the annual Tasmanian Dairy Conference.

All three finalists in the Fonterra Share Dairy Farmer of the Year Award are from the North-West Coast, with Olivia Heger from East Ridgley, Mercede and Aaron Kay, from Togari, and Ryan and Brighid Langley, from Redpa all in the running.

The Lira Lira farm, at Broadmeadows, near Smithton, managed by Jason Moore, and owned by Aurora Dairies, is one of three finalists in the ANZ Dairy Business of the Year Award as well.

Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture Dairy Extension Officer Lesley Irvine, who is also one of the judges says the awards showcase businesses who are excelling in many different aspects of dairy farm management including people, environment, safety and overall business performance.
