Coastal production, cast and crew named finalists in theatre awards

The Devonport Choral Society has received seven nominations in this year’s Tasmanian Theatre Awards for its production of Freaky Friday.

All the nominations are in the musical theatre section, including a nomination for best production.

The awards, known as The Errols, are named after Tasmanian-born Hollywood legend Errol Flynn and are open to both professional and amateur productions.

Natalia Gaffney and Alana Lane are two of the four finalists for the best female lead, while the whole cast is in the running for the Errol for best ensemble.

Director Maree Brodzynski is up for two Errols as best director and jointly with Michael Wescott for best lighting and video.

Belinda Gunson and Jennifer Slater are among the finalists for best original set design, while Petrina Jahnz is up for the Errol for best musical director.

Ulverstone actor Janzen Reynolds is also a finalist in the best male supporting actor in a musical for his performance in Things to Ruin: The Songs of Joe Iconis, staged by Launceston-based Dare Collective.

The awards ceremony will be held in Hobart on March 2nd.
