Five of Tasmania’s 10 poorest schools are on the North-West Coast, according to an independent analysis of school financial records on the My School website.
The study looked at school financial recordings of 250 schools around the state over a five-year period from 2017 to 2021, taking into account income from fees and charges, donations, sponsorships and State Government funding.
Wilmot Primary was ranked as third-poorest, was the worst-off of Coastal schools, with $3.6 million, followed by Natone Primary fourth with $4.2 million and Redpa Primary and Sprent Primary equal fifth at $4.4 million each.
Sassafras Primary School was ranked ninth-poorest with $5.6 million.
At the other end of the scale, no Coastal schools made the top 10 richest list, topped by Hobart’s Friends School wth a five-year profit of $158.3 million.
The richest Coastal school was Marist Regional College, ranked 11th, with $80.5 million, with Don College the best performed non-private Coastal school, coming in at 20th, with a profit of $60.9 million
