Two North-West Coasters are among 12 finalists for Tasmanian Australian of the Year awards.
Wynyard native Tasmanian food advocate Rees Campbell is one of four on the short-list for senior Australian of the Year and Tarleton apprentice carpenter Elise Bird is a finalist for Young Australian of the Year.
Tasmanian winners will be named in Hobart on November 6th and will then represent Tasmania in the national awards in Canberra in January.
Rees Campbell promotes growing and using Tasmanian wild food plants and seaweed, and she has written three books, which are the only published sources on Tasmanian edible wild plants.
24 year-old Elise Bird was the first female carpentry apprentice at Devonport’s Meadcon Constructions and was last year named Master Builders Association state and national apprentice of the year.
