Winter occupancy rates at accommodation properties in the North-West continue to be of concern with the release of the Tasmanian Hospitality Association’s latest occupancy report.

The THA quarterly report for June to August shows occupancy rates on the North-West Coast at an average of only 40% – well below the statewide average of 60.3%.

The report says the North-West figure represents a 3.9% decrease on the same time last year and the lowest rate since 2017.

The North-West’s annual occupancy rate of 60.1% is well behind the South at 78.5% cent and the North at 77%.

THA president Steve Old says the North-West Coast is a pivotal part of Tasmania’s hospitality landscape, but faced unique challenges which need to be addressed.

Mr Old says the tourism and hospitality industries and the State Government need to increase visibility, invest in infrastructure and develop new and innovative attractions which can draw visitors outside the peak season.
