Ulverstone’s Connect Cafe has celebrated its fifth birthday.
The pop-up weekly cafe in the Gnoman Pavillion has provided a safe space for community members and carers of those living with dementia to meet and connect with each other, while enjoying a cuppa and familiar company.
The Connect Cafe was established in 2019 by the Central Coast Council with grant funding from the Tasmanian Community Fund.
Since then, it’s been enabling people to continue to come together in a supportive environment, share in pet therapy, enjoy entertainment and activities and provide a sense of connection, belonging and fun that can make people feel free and affirm that they are still welcome in the community.
The cafe averages more than 50 attendees on most Tuesdays and is run by volunteers and relies on donations to continue.
