The Devonport City Council has prioritised upgrades to the Valley Road Soccer complex and an expanded sports precinct near the Devonport Oval as the first and major steps in it’s sporting facilities master plan.

The council has already secured $25 million from the Federal Government towards the master plan and is now seeking a contribution from the State Government.

A key element of the plan will be the relocation of the Devonport Recreation Centre and Stadium to a new multi-purpose facility near the oval, which will include a new basketball stadium.

Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman says it’s long overdue.

Councillor Jarman says the precinct would cater for football, cricket, cycling, athletics, basketball and hopefully netball, while major upgrades are also planned for the Valley Road soccer complex.
