The Central Coast Council has a rabbit problem in Ulverstone.
They may appear cute and cuddly, but the feral pests are running amok – or should that be hopping amok – at the River Park cricket ground and surrounding parkland.
The council has decided to undertake a rabbit control programme in the next week or so to reduce damage to the environment and compromised public safety due to numerous holes.
Under the supervision of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the council will start a poison baiting programme with carrots laced with the poison Pindone.
The council says the programme should take a fortnight to complete and is asking dog owners to avoid the area or ensure their pets are on a lead.
The poisoned carrots will be green in colour and an antidote is readily available from most vets for anyone who things their dog may have eaten a baited carrot
