The Central Coast Council will be asked to approve a redevelopment of the Ulverstone Civic Centre at its monthly council meeting for February on Monday night.
A report, to be tabled on Monday night, says the current centre, built in 1983, has simply out-lived its purpose and is no longer making a profit – losing around $100,000 a year.
The report includes 15 recommendations, which councillors will be asked to approve, to be funded over three years from the council’s capital works budget.
However, there’s no indication in the agenda of the likely cost of the redevelopment.
The report says Devonport’s Paranaple Centre has become the preferred venue for performances on the North-West Coast and has twice the seating capacity and more modern audio-visual than the Ulverstone Civic Centre.
It also says the expectation for meetings and spaces with audio-visual equipment, wi-fi and an attractive outlook has seen a shift away from the centre’s Gawler Room for social and civic functions to other venues, including the Gnomon Pavilion in the Ulverstone Wharf Precinct.
