The Devonport Strikers have been eliminated from the Australia Cup, going down to the Gold Coast Knights one-nil on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.

The Strikers won the right to represent Tasmania in the nationwide soccer competition by winning the Lakoseljac Cup final in June against arch-rival South Hobart.

Last night’s game almost got off to a fairytale start with a shot on goal for the Strikers hitting the crossbar in the first minute.

The score was locked at nil-all at half time, bue relentless forward pressure from the home side saw the Knights break the deadlock in the 54th minute with a header from Gold Coast captain Austin Ludwick following a corner kick.

It was the Striker’s sixth time in the Australia Cup, now on their way home to resume in the Tasmanian NPL competition, playing Launceston City in Launceston on Saturday.
