The Cancer Council Tasmania has put the call out for more volunteer drivers to help with its Transport2Treatment programme on the North West Coast.
The service currently transports cancer patients from Smithton, Burnie and Devonport to appointments at the North-West Regional Hospital in Burnie, or to Launceston and Hobart if required as well.
Many volunteer drivers usually work one day a week or even less frequently, with the Burnie service in particular struggling to fill the roster.
Cancer Council Tasmania CEO Penny Egan says in the past 12 months, the Transport2Treatment service on the North-West Coast had completed almost 1700 trips, with around 6000 trips statewide taking patients to cancer treatment appointments.
