The fate of more than two dozen elm trees in Ulverstone has been sealed following Central Coast Council monthly meeting.
Councilors unanimously passed a motion to push forward with the Risby Street Renewal project, which will see the removal of 25 longstanding trees.
175 locals signed a petition urging council to place the removal of the elm trees on hold pending broader community consultation and a redesign prioritising their retention.
Council says they considered a number of factors spanning engineering constraints, arborist reports and delivery impacts when determining whether they could push the project back for further investigation of the trees.
Council says replanting forms part of the mitigation plan.
