A 43 year old Ranelagh man has been killed in a car crash near the Longley Hotel on the Huon Road, around 12.30am in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
His 43 year old female passenger in the Nissan Micra was seriously injured and had to cut free from the wreckage.
Police believe speed and alcohol may have played a part in the car coming off a right hand curve and hitting a concrete bridge.
At the time the road was dry, weather was clear, and traffic was light. The cause of the crash continues to be investigated and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Anyone who observed the vehicle prior to the collision is asked to contact Crash Investigation Services on 62302111 or by contacting Crime Stoppers.
