The major step in the Project Far North West tourism strategy at Dismal Swamp near Smithton has been locked in, thanks to a $12.5 million grant from the Federal Government.
The overall project aims to attract up to $50 million in tourism investment with the transformation of the Dismal Swamp site into an tourism adventure hub.
Tasmanian Senator Anne Urquhart says the Federal funding is a shot in the arm for tourism in the far North-West, but would also benefit the wider Braddon area.
Senator Urquhart says the rehabilitation of Dismal Swamp is the first step in a project which will generate income and support jobs on the North-West Coast and introduce thousands of tourists to the region every year.
