Applications are now open for the latest round of the State Government-funded Community Defibrillator Fund.

Health Minister Jacquie Petrusma says when someone has a cardiac arrest, their chance of survival declines by almost 10 per cent with each passing minute, and having access to an AED can mean the difference between life and death.

There are currently more than 1000 publicly accessible AEDs in Tasmania, 360 of which have been funded by the Government programme, with many more privately owned, including more than 800 across the North-West Coast, with 146 in the Devonport City area and 132 in Burnie alone.

Applications for the free AEDs close on January 25th.
