TasWater is hopeful water supply issues experienced during this week’s power outages will soon become a things of the past with Federal funding being made available through the Federal Government’s Disaster Ready Fund.

A number of water treatment plants around the state this week were taken out of action, with residents of Devonport, Ulverstone, Turners Beach and Smithton advised to conserve water, before normal services were resumed on Thursday.

Under the funding, TasWater has received $2.2 million from the Federal Government, which it has matched with $2.2 million of its own money, meaning $4.4 million in total will go towards future-proofing water treatment plants.

TasWater’s head of risk and resilience, Mark McConnon says the funding will allow upgrades to water treatment plants and pump stations, future-proofing them against any potential blackouts.
