Burnie-born Taran Armstrong is set to become the first Tasmanian basketballer to play in the US NBA after being signed by the San Francisco-based Golden State Warriors.
The 23 year-old point guard is currently playing for the Cairns Taipans in the NBL, having previously played with Burnie, Wynyard, the North West Thunder, as well as playing underage basketball for Australia.
Armstrong has this year averaged 17 points a game with the Taipans and has scored 20 points or more 8 times this season.
The NBA deal will see the Tasmanian most likely starting with Golden State’s development team, the Santa Cruz Warriors.
