Tasmanian animal welfare charity Just Cats will open a cat management facility and shelter on the North-West Coast.

Just Cats, which regularly visits the Coast with cat adoption days at Ulverstone, has secured a site in Burnie for the new facility.

Founder Rachael Beech the Launceston-based charity has taken in 250 cats from the North-West and West Coasts in the past six months alone.

Ms Beech says the organisation has been working towards setting up a North-West facility for the past four years, but has been disappointed with a lack of funding from the State Government.

Earlier this month Primary Industries Minister Jane Howlett announced the Government will fund a North-West cat shelter with a $500,000 grant and has called for expressions of interest, which close on February 21st.

Ms Beech says Just Cats has applied for the funding, but is committed to a North-West centre whether it gets the funding or not, and has started its own fundraising campaign in the meantime.
