A 20 year old man from Moonah has been charged with a variety of offences after a burglary was reported in New Town yesterday.

Around 9am, the man was disturbed inside the house before fleeing the area with a large quantity of property, including jewellery, cash and electronic devices.

Police located him nearby, where he was arrested and subsequently charged with offences including aggravated burglary, stealing, unlawful possession of property, and carrying a dangerous article in a public place.

All stolen property was located and returned to the owners, and the alleged offender was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

“Police would like to remind all members of the community to ensure they lock their properties and vehicles, especially when not in attendance,” said Acting Inspector Rick Newman. “Thieves are often opportunistic, and I urge everyone to be vigilant to prevent being a target of burglary.”
