The Tasmanian Electoral Commission has released expected dates for the Legislative Council elections for three seats in May.
The terms for sitting members in Nelson and Pembroke in the South of the state and Montgomery in the North-West will end in May, with the TEC saying the likely date for the election will be May 3rd.
The Montgomery Electorate takes in Central Coast, Sheffield, Ridgley and most of Burnie.
A writ for the election has to be formally issued by the Governor before it’s locked in, but it will have to change if a Federal Election is called for the same day.
If the May 3rd date is accepted, nominations for candidates will close on April 10th, candidates will be announced on April 11th, and pre-polling will open from April 14th.
Voting in the election is compulsory.
Sitting Montgomery Liberal MLC Leonie Hiscutt, who is also the Leader of Government Business in the Upper House, will retire at the end of her term and not re-contest.
Former Senator Stephen Parry has been nominated by the Liberals, while Dr Darren Briggs has nominated for the Tasmanian Greens.
