Men’s support group Mr Perfect will celebrate five years of encouraging men to talk about their issues with a free barbecue at Ulverstone on Sunday.
Since starting in 2020, more than 500 North-West men have attended monthly Mr Perfect barbecues, initially at Ulverstone, but expanding to include Port Sorell, Devonport and Sheffield, with Wynyard to host its first Mr Perfect barbecue on February 23rd.
Volunteer co-ordinator Greg Smith says the sausages, burgers and sandwiches are popular, but it’s the conversations and camaraderie which makes it more than just a barbecue.
Mr Smith says the conversations had are wide ranging and valuable, talking about fishing or sport one minute and discussing mental health, suicide prevention and prostate health the next minute.
The barbecues are free, including non-alcoholic drinks, Sunday’s celebratory barbie at Otto’s Grotto at Bicentennial Park in Ulverstone on Sunday from 11am to 2.30 pm
