Police on the are not impressed with the behaviour of North-West drivers after nabbing more than 100 of them for speeding in a targeted operation on Monday.

A total of 119 lead-footed drivers were booked during a dedicated traffic enforcement operation in Burnie, Penguin, Devonport, Parramatta Creek, Kimberley, Sulphur Creek, Latrobe, Port Sorell, Forth and Don.

Almost half of them, 53, were detected speeding between 15 and 29 km/hr over the limit, with 63 of them nabbed for being between 10 and 14 km/hr too fast.

A total of 141 traffic infringement notices were issued during the operation, including 6 for failing to stop at a railway crossing while the flashing lights were on, and four for not wearing seat belts.

Police say Tasmania’s road toll so far this year is almost double what it was at the same time last year and the frequency of serious crashes is also considerably higher, which makes it disappointing some drivers continue to disregard the law and endanger other road users with risky driving behaviours.
