Motorists being urged to drive to the conditions in bushfire smoke

TFS crews are patrolling the site of a bushfire at Port Sorell, which reached advice level for a brief period on Monday night.

The blaze at Jasmine Drive was quickly controlled, and there has been no threat to the local community.

Meanwhile,a bushfire at Boys Road, at Forest has led to a smoke alert being issued on Monday for the Bass Highway at Smithton between Back Line and Irishtown Road – with authorities warning of visible smoke, ash and embers.

Unusual for this time of year, it’s the third bushfire in a week on the North-West Coast, after a fire near Smithton last week resulted in a three-car collision in thick smoke on the Bass Highway, prompting police to remins motorists about the dangers of driving through smoke.

They include turning your headlights on and slowing down as there may also be emergency vehicles and crews in the area.
